Islamophobic Attack in Calgary Alberta on May 30, 2021
CMPJ was disturbed to learn of an Islamophobic attack that occurred in Calgary on May 30, 2021. A woman and her son were verbally and physically attacked. The woman had her hijab pulled. There has been a worrying increase in Islamophobic attacks across Alberta. Just a few days ago, a man was targeted in his car. In Edmonton, multiple women wearing hijabs have been attacked.
There must be accountability for these acts. No Canadian should live in fear of being attacked because of the religion they practice. We call on all orders of government to aggressively combat Islamophobia and other forms of discrmination.
