Statement - University of Calgary Students Protest
STATEMENT
(FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE)
Canada is a democratic country with a Charter of Rights that protects the citizen-students' rights to peaceful protest.
CMPJ supports the University of Calgary students' peaceful protest on the campus. The Calgary police aggressive action to use tear gas and Flash Bang bombs to break up the students' protest during the Thursday’s night violated the students' constitutional rights.
CMPJ strongly condemns the Calgary police aggressive actions to disperse the protest. Canadian universities receive our tax dollars to function.
Therefore, as Canadian taxpayers, we demand that the University of Calgary allow peaceful protests by the students on the land of a public institution.
